Agadir, Monday, January 20, 2025
The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, presided on Monday in Agadir over the inauguration ceremony of a new factory by the Leoni Group, a global leader in wiring systems for the automotive industry.
With an investment of 230 million dirhams (MDH), this new production unit is located at the heart of the Souss-Massa Industrial Acceleration Zone (ZAI).
Covering an area of 7.6 hectares, with more than 19,000 m² dedicated to production, this facility is expected to have a significant impact on the local economy. It will create over 3,000 direct jobs by 2027, bringing the total number of jobs within the Leoni Group in Morocco to 19,000.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Akhannouch stated that "such an investment strengthens the country's position on the global automotive industry map." He highlighted that the trust placed by the German Group LEONI confirms the dynamism and growth of this sector in Morocco, thanks to the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which has made the Kingdom a privileged destination for global automotive leaders.
"This project will further establish Agadir as a new industrial hub, given the city's potential in terms of modern industrial and logistics infrastructure, as well as a professional training system that meets business needs," he added.
For his part, Ingo Spengler, Executive Board Member & COO of Leoni Group, stated: "Our establishment in Agadir reflects a strategic decision that demonstrates our long-term commitment to Morocco and this fast-growing region."
He also emphasized that this step reflects Leoni's confidence in the potential of Morocco's economy and the dynamism of the African continent, confirming the group's ability to turn commitments into concrete actions. This move will enhance Leoni's competitiveness in the commercial vehicle sector, while deploying smart processes within its global production network.
Meanwhile, Fakhri Bouguerra, General Manager of Leoni Morocco, said that the inauguration of the new Agadir site "marks a key milestone in our development strategy in Morocco, symbolizing our long-term commitment to the Kingdom."
"By choosing to establish ourselves in this region, we are actively contributing to local economic dynamism while strengthening innovation and excellence in automotive technologies," he continued. He pointed out that this site, which will generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, reflects Leoni's commitment to supporting the industrial growth of the Souss-Massa region and contributing to the expansion of Morocco’s automotive industry.
This inauguration marks a crucial step in implementing the agreement signed between Leoni Group and the Moroccan government, aimed at developing six major projects in the automotive sector.
With a total investment exceeding 932 million dirhams (MDH), these projects are spread across various regions of Morocco and are expected to have a significant economic impact.
Ultimately, these projects will create 7,100 new direct jobs by 2027, contributing to strengthening Morocco’s industrial sector and promoting employment in the automotive industry, with positive economic effects nationwide.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several officials, including: Younes Sekkouri, Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Enterprises, Employment, and Skills, Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade, Karim Zidane, Minister Delegate in charge of Investment, Convergence, and Evaluation of Public Policies, Said Amzazi, Wali (Governor) of the Souss-Massa region and Karim Achengli, President of the Regional Council.
