Morocco-China: Strategic Meetings for Transformative Investments on the Sidelines of the FOCAC Summit

The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz AKHANNOUCH, representing His Majesty King Mohammed VI, assisted by God, chaired a high-level delegation composed of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing in Foreign Countries, Mr. Nasser BOURITA, the Minister of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, Mr. Mohcine JAZOULI and the President of the General Confederation of Enterprises of Morocco, Mr. Chakib ALJ, at the Summit of the Sino-African Cooperation Forum (FOCAC), held on Wednesday 4 September 2024 in Beijing, under the theme "Partnering to promote modernization and build a high-level China-Africa community of shared future".

Established in 2000, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) serves as a strategic platform for deepening relations between China and African nations. It fosters mutually beneficial exchanges in key sectors such as infrastructure, trade, education, health, and technology.

On the sidelines of the FOCAC Summit, the Head of Government, alongside the Minister of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, took part in several strategic meetings with key Chinese economic actors, including:

  • Mr. Zhen Li, President of Gotion High Tech, to review the progress of the Gigafactory project in Kenitra. This project, focused on the production of electric batteries, is a crucial step in Morocco's ambition to become a global hub for battery manufacturing and a leader in the automotive sector.
  • Mr. Liang Yanshun, Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party for Anhui Province, to explore potential partnership opportunities between Morocco and this province.
  • And Mr. Lei Xu, President of SUNRISE Group, to reaffirm state support for SUNRISE's strategic project in Morocco, which aims to create 11,000 direct jobs within the next three years through the establishment of integrated industrial plants covering the entire value chain.
