Spain Meeting: Investing in Morocco for shared prosperity

The Ministry of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies (MICEPP), the Moroccan Agency for the Development of Investment and Exports (AMDIE) and the Regional Investment Centres of the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra, Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima and Marrakech-Safi regions organised a business meeting on 22 May in Madrid with the CGEM under the theme "Investing in Morocco for common prosperity".

The meeting, which brought together almost 150 Moroccan and Spanish business leaders, was organized jointly by the Moroccan-Spanish Economic Council (CEMAES), the Confédération Générale des Entreprises Marocaines (CGEM), the Confederación Española de Organizaciones Empresariales (CEOE) and the Spanish Chamber of Commerce. The forum provided an opportunity to underline the solidity of the commercial partnership between Morocco and Spain, and also to encourage Spanish operators to increase the volume of their investments in Morocco. "Over the past 20 years, we have collectively multiplied trade by 5, and we should ensure that this trend remains solid. However, there is still plenty of room for improvement in terms of investment," declared Mohcine JAZOULI in his opening speech. In 2022, trade between Morocco and Spain reached a record of almost €20 billion. Spain is Morocco's leading customer and supplier, while Morocco is Spain's second largest non-European partner and its leading African partner.

However, investment in 2022 still falls short of ambitions. On the margins of this business forum, a meeting was held between the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Investment, Convergence and the Evaluation of Public Policies and the Spanish Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, as well as several working meetings, notably in the presence of Ali Seddiki, Managing Director of AMDIE, with senior executives from Spanish companies in a wide range of sectors, including agri-food, the circular economy, waste management, renewable energies, water, the rail industry and tourism.
